Real life fashion: hotpants in London Formal heatwave picnic attire: Denim hotpants and T-shirt.

Where to wear hotpants- the etiquette
London is a pretty tolerant place, where people can wear anything they choose, from burkas to hotpants. Nevertheless,  exercise caution, as well as the help of a full length 3 way mirror. Being an optimist, I wear mine for outdoor events/picnics, light conservatory gardening and for the pool. That’s about it. They are not afternoon tea outfits, nor are they for the office or for important meetings. We had to send back home one of the interns, who turned up at work in cut off shorts. Our office dress code is pretty relaxed, yet one still has to wear something. Hotpants are unsuitable for lunch (and certainly not for dinner!) Please don’t go shopping in them either. (unless you live in LA, and you are a minor celebrity – the fashion code is quite different there.) Denim, particularly when artificially distressed, is one of the most polluting fabrics on the planet so always trying to keep the number of jeans I buy, down to something manageable.

Accessorise those hotpants Basket bags, or vintage CHANEL’s – anything goes, but No heels. Correct footwear: sneakers, flip flops or the very best – bare, impeccably manicured feet.

Nooooo. Heels with hot pants=fashion police will issue a ticket

No! No, no! Heels with hot pants=fashion licence revoked. Even hookers don’t wear those any more.

Yes, yes yes! Correct footwear is key.

Yes, yes yes! Correct footwear is key. Sneakers, desert boots, flip flops… Bare feet! Keep it fresh…
